BBC Drops Trailer For New Series Of Blue Planet

The BBC has shared the first trailer for the new series of nature docu-series Blue Planet – which, this time, has a bit of a twist… It’s going to be live.

Presented by Liz Bonnin, Chris Packham and Steve Backshall, the series will kick off later this month, with the first episode airing on BBC One on Sunday 24 March.

“At this crucial time for our oceans, we dive deeper than ever before,” explains the 30-second-long trailer, which takes viewers on a journey through the ocean.

“Be there when it happens.”

Oh, we will, BBC – don’t you worry.

There will be four live episodes in three different locations across the week, each exploring marine life and the health of our damaged oceans.

Yesterday, BBC One tweeted: “Blue Planet is back! Blue Planet is back! Blue Planet is back! And this time it’s LIVE. Get ready for #BluePlanetLive with @lizbonnin, @ChrisGPackham and @SteveBackshall. Starts Sunday 24th March at 8pm on @BBCOne.”

The programme will be broadcast live from three different locations across the planet: the USA’s East Coast, the Bahamas and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Charlotte Moore, BBC Director of Content, said: “Blue Planet Live will thrill the millions of viewers who discovered so much from last year’s groundbreaking series that shocked the nation.

“BBC One continues to lead that conversation as we travel live around the globe to witness first hand the magnificent marine life within our oceans and wake up to one of the biggest environmental crises of our times.”

Viewers will see marine animals breeding and feeding, and get close to turtles, sharks, whales and many other species.

The series will be exploring the last oceanic frontier that is ‘The Deep’, described as the beating heart of our planet, and will be doing so live for the first time on television.

The episodes will also revisit some of the key locations and animal characters from Blue Planet II along with entirely new ones to give a truly global picture of our marine life.

Blue Planet Live begins on Sunday 24 March at 8pm on BBC One.
