A pregnant mum has claimed that an Asda delivery driver made her carry £200 worth of shopping up two sets of stairs and refused to help her.
She also claims that the supermarket sent her – a pregnant woman – a bottle of champagne by way of apology.
Twenty-year-old Amy Natasha Botten, from West London, ordered her shopping online from Asda but was so mortified by the behaviour of the delivery driver and his unwillingness to help her out that she started filming the guy.
She can be heard straining and clearly out of breath whilst her young son cries in the background. All the while the driver was emptying her shopping onto the floor at the bottom of the stairs claiming that it wasn’t in bags because he had ‘run out’.
She asked him: “Can you not help me with this last little bit because my little boy is up there crying his eyes out?”
The driver simply responded: “I’d rather not.”
She hit back: “You’d rather not? But this is your job.”
That seems like a fair enough observation, to be quite honest.
Amy then posted the video on Facebook and added: “This shouldn’t be happening to anyone – bad health, lonely and elderly, disabled, pregnant!! It should NOT BE HAPPENING. It’s called HOME delivery.
“I just had to carry a £200 monthly shop up two flights of stairs alone, pregnant with pelvic problems. No choice but to leave my son on his own crying.”
After she reported the incident to them, Asda made matters worse by sending a bottle of alcohol by way of an apology.
In her Facebook post, she continued: “Feltham Asda gave me a bottle of champagne and some flowers and couldn’t apologise enough for the driver not doing his job.
“No, I won’t be drinking it and no, I didn’t record this for compensation.
“This will be taken further because it needs to stop happening. Asda needs to take responsibility for its drivers and their customer service.”
When LADbible contacted Asda for a statement, a spokesperson said: “We always try to offer our customers great service but clearly we got it wrong on this occasion and we are truly sorry.
“This goes against our home shopping policies and we have offered our full apology to Ms Botten and are in contact with her to try and make amends.”
Despite that, the video has made a lot of people online angry, with a number of them calling for the delivery driver to lose his job.
Asda also pointed out that the whole cost of Amy’s shop was refunded as a means of further apology.
